You can break up both of the expressions
4x + 36 = 0
Subtract 36 from both sides
4x = -36
Divide both sides by 4
x = -9

8x - 40 = 0
Add 40 to both sides
8x = 40
Divide both sides by 8
x = 5
The answer is B) x = -9 and x = 5
