Both variables depend on mass and velocity but momentum is a vector quantity while kinetic energy is a scalar quantity.

Momentum is directly proportional to the mass and velocity. To a greater mass or velocity a greater momentum while Kinetic Energy is inversely proportional to the object's mass. The smaller the mass the greater the Kinetic Energy.
