Because we've assumed [tex]c \neq 0[/tex], we can safely divide by [tex]c[/tex] (if [tex]c[/tex] could equal zero, we would have to account for the case in which doing so would be to divide by zero).  Hence, we have:

[tex]\begin{aligned} x+5=7 \end{aligned}[/tex]

Subtracting [tex]5[/tex] from both sides gives [tex]x = \boxed{2}[/tex].
