Kirsten bought a dress for $50.88. There was a 6% sales tax on the dress. How much did the dress cost before sales tax?

The correct answer = $48

Explanation:
Let x  represent the pre-sales' tax price of the dress.

Hence,
x + 0.06x = 50.88

Now solve for x,
x = 
[tex] \frac{50.88}{1.06} [/tex]
x = 48
Hence the dress cost before sales tax = $48.
