two angles are supplementary. the measure of the first angle is 10 degrees more than three times the second angle. find the measure of each angle. how do I write an equation for this

Supplementary= 180

180= 3x+10+x

x= the first angle I put 3x because it is 3 times the other one, and 10 more. 

Now, solve.

180= 4x+10

Subtract 10. 

170=4x

Divide both sides by 4. 

x=42.5 

That is the measure of the first angle. 

42.5*3= 127.5

Now, add 10.

137.5 is the second angle. 

We can add them to make sure. 

137.5+42.5= 180 <== this works
