How to calculate confidence interval for the proportion?

a confidence interval is an interval of values that contains the true value of a certain parameter (or proportion, in this case), with a fixed confidence. it is so important to start choosing the level of confidence that we want to have.

once done this, we need an estimate for the parameter/proportion of interest, as confidence intervals are built around these estimates.
