How can solving inequalities and multi-step equations be alike and different?

inequalities and equations are pretty much solved the same way in that u get the variable u r looking for on one side, and everything else on the other side...then just solve for the variable. However, there is one important rule that has to do with inequalities that doesn't have to do with equations. That rule is when dividing/multiplying by a negative number, u have to switch the inequality sign.
