How do the general methods for separating mixtures and compounds differ?

There are several ways as to which the components of the mixtures and compounds are separated from one another. First, mixtures can be physically separated. These processes of separation include sifting, filtration, centrifugation, etc. 

However, separation of the components of the compounds are rather more complicated as this involves chemical reaction and other heat intensive processes.
