Suppose v varies directly as g , and v = -36 when g = 4. Find v when g = 12.

If v is directly related to g, then we can find the ratio of v/g=-36/4=-9. Since v./g=-9, if we plug g=12 in we get v/12=-9. Multiplying both sides by 12, we get v=-108
