The Alien and Sedition Acts were acts targeted towards the aliens. The Alien Act increased the waiting period to become a U.S. citizen from 5 to 14 years. The Sedition act gave the president the power to arrest disloyal aliens. They were controversial because many people believed that it was unconstitutional.
