As a result of the glorious revolution there was a war in Ireland, the Williamite War. It was fought between those who supported King James, that is the Catholic Irish people, versus those who supported William, that is the protestant unionists. William won and ensured that Ireland would be rule by Britain for hundreds of years to come.
