1) break the expression into groups
(6a^2 + 2ab) + (-15ab - 5b^2)

2) factor out 2a from 6a^2 + 2ab
factor out -5b from -15ab - 5b^2
2a(3a + b) - 5b(3a + b)

3) factor out the common term (3a + b)
(3a + b)(2a - 5b)

answer: (3a + b)(2a - 5b)
