To calculate (f g)(-1), we use the definition:

[tex](f+g)(x)=f(x)+g(x)[/tex]

This is true if x is defined for f and g. Now, for our problem:

[tex](f+g)(-1)=f(-1)+g(-1)=-3+1=-2[/tex]
