step 1: convert mixed fractions over to improper fractions. EX: 1 1/2 = 3/2
step 2: multiply numerator times numerator, and denominator by denominator. FACTORING DOWN MAKES IT EASIER! EX: 3/2 times 4/6. you would factor down 2&4, and 3&6
