ANSWER: The numbers are -70 and -68

EXPLANATION:
x+y = -138 eqn i
x-y = -2 eqn ii

From eqn ii
x-y = -2
x = -2 + y

Substitute x = -2 + y into eqn i
We have
-2 + y + y = -138
2y = -138 + 2
y = -68

Substitute y = -68 into eqn ii to get the value of x
x - y = -2
x -(-68) = -2
x + 68 = -2
x = -2 -68
x = -70
