The Spanish took the Indigenous people as slaves and used them for labor. The Spanish could easily take over the indigenous and take their gold and resources etc.. the Spanish had guns and extremely good weapons (at the time) so they can easily take anything they wanted from the Indigenous people and use them as slaves and other horrible things.
