Why didn't Native American interact with French settlers

The Native Americans did have a excellent relationship with the French. The Native Americas didn't have a good relationship with the early colonists though. When the French came to the Americas they immediately started trading things with each other. Although when the early colonists came they tried to take the Americas, and call it their country.
