exercise makes your heart beat faster, which increases the amount of cardiac cycles per minute. this means that you will need to intake more oxygen to keep up with the oxidizing of the blood and as you breathe, diffusion occurs (taking in oxygen and releasing CO2). In short, the more you exercise and the faster your heart beats, the more oxygen you consume and the more CO2 you release.
