A wise man once said, "400 reduced by 3 times my age is 250." What is his age? show work

well 400 - 250 is 150 so 150 divide 3 is 50 so he’s 50

We assume wise man's age is x years…and 3 times his age will be 3x as per the simple calculation..

Wise man gives you second hint… from 400 , reduce thrice my age and you will get 163..

Let's try again…

Now the equation becomes :-

400 - 3x = 163

400–163 =3x

237 = 3x or 3x = 237 or x = 79…

The wise person looks to be experienced too with current age of 79 years… ☺️.
