In the context of the history of the 20th century, the interwar period or "interbellum" was the period between the end of the First World War and the beginning of the Second World War, the period beginning with the Armistice of 11 November 1918 that concluded the First World War and the following Paris Peace Conference in 1919, and ending in September 1939 with the German invasion of Poland and the start of the Second World War.
