Mystery, tension and surprise are different. A mystery is when there is something to solve, for example, a murder. Tension is the same as suspense, the book keeps you hooked, you ask yourself "What's going to happen next?!". As for surprise, there is an event that surprises you, a plot twist, something happens that you didn't expect.
