Conviction on any of the articles requires a two-thirds majority vote and results in the removal from office. Three United States presidents have been impeached: Andrew Johnson in 1868, Bill Clinton in 1998, and Donald Trump in 2019. All three were formally tried in the Senate but none were removed.
