Certain foods, especially commonly needed ones, like butter, sugar, meat, 
cheese, eggs, lard, bacon, tea, jam, biscuits, milk, breakfast cereals, and canned and dried fruit were rationed due to their greater widespread necessity and increased delivery for the feeding of troops.
