They are important to the plot of the play because it shows how deadly Macbeth's ambition was and how he would do anything to get to where he wanted to be. If it meant killing those to get more status in life he would. That is why he is a tragic hero in the play because he let the corruptive power of ambition get in the way of his better judgement.
