Answer:

Rewards are used to make people do something they might not want to otherwise. It is used as a motivational strategy to enhance productivity. They are in the form of monthly bonuses, promotions, appraisals and etc.

If an employer or any other entity uses rewards to inculcate a behavior that is already present in the receiver, it might inhibit their work or might not even effect them and the productivity might remain stagnant. In that case, the rewards would not help.
