5.25 miles - 3 miles = 2.25 miles

2.25 miles is the extra miles.

2.25 miles x $1.20 = $2.7

Total:

$2.7 + ($1.5 x 3 miles)

=$2.7 + $4.5

=$7.2

5.5 miles will cost $2.7.
