They are both equal to y so you can set them equal to each other to solve for x:

14x - 6 = -4x + 48

18x = 54

x = 3

To solve for y just plug 3 into the x of one of the given equations

y = 14(3) - 6

y = 42 - 6

y = 36

To check:

36 = 14(3) - 6

36 = 42 - 6

36 = 36

36 = -4(3) + 48

36 = -12 + 48

36 = 36
