The 1960 presidential election campaign was the first largely televised. John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) was young, good looking and very smart. During debates on TV, Kennedy was well dressed, confident, showing knowledge while Nixon looked uncomfortable and sicky. The first televised debate made a big difference in the popular vote, as the television shows words and  also the body language that means a lot.
