It was to uplift the standards of living in the United States of America.  Johnson wanted to resolve various issues at home such as racism, poverty, unemployment, education and urban renewal.  Passing of the Voter’s Right’s Act of 1965, Immigration Act of 1965, creation of the Department of Housing and Urban Development were among the steps the government undertook to resolve these issues.
