General Andrew Jackson  took it upon himself to take Florida from Spain. However, he stated that his actions on invading the territory, were because of his concern regarding the advancement of Indians against whites. A year later (1819) Spain agrred to pass Florida to the USA through the Adam-Onis Treaty.
