The best answer here is A. The Italian sonnet follows the rhyme scheme ABBAABBA CDECDE (an octave and a sestet), while the English sonnet follows the rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EFEF GG (three quatrains followed by a couplet). In the first pattern, the poet proposes a problem in the octave that he or she then resolves in the sestet. In the second pattern, the poet uses the final couplet to make a witty remark.
