Why does postman compare watching tv to a game of peek-a-boo?

Neil Postman said that show business is the same as a game of peek-a-boo. News headlines are shown sensationally so that people get hooked but their lives are barely affected. Peek-a-boo game is like watching TV wherein shows are flashed for sometime then disappears again. Television shows are very interesting to us in the same way peek-a-boo delights a baby.
